I had to make a LOT of objects for this game so I used ZBrush 3 to my advantage, simple blocky model forms could be sculpted quickly into complex scene objects. Also the detail didn't need to be that high as things were always quite small by the time they were rendered in the scene.
Heres a test render of the gargoyle with a simple concrete texture added, I also added various other dirt/grime layers later on and added two of them to guard the doorway scene.
I also needed a deerskull just because they are pretty creepy, so I blocked one out in Cinema 4D then sculpted it in ZBrush, added a basic white material and again added it to the scene. I was going to paint these objects but I was on a very tight timescale and the details simply wouldn't show up in such small renders!!
I also collected some textures with my camera and also CGTEXTURES.com and put together for some things like cases etc then I modelled the object over them and used Bodypaint (part of Cinema 4D) to align the UV's over the image to use the textures precisely. This was more for objects that would be seen close up etc.
