I also had to create the exterior for the menu scene so I did a bunch of research on various old spooky houses and built several detailed sections that could be repeated to build the full house, there's quite a lot of detailed stuff in there.

Heres a test render of the house, just to make sure it looks solid (meshwise etc) and then I got in there adding textures and a sky, foreground etc as a lot of work was done in Photoshop afterwards...I tend to work like that, basic 3D renders with a lot of Photoshop work for all those little details.

Heres a screengrab from Cinema 4D for the cellar scene, as you can see theres lot of objects and things like lights, they're are distance restricted...meaning the light only travels so far, allowing nice dark corners and spooky shadows!!

Heres a screengrab from Cinema 4D for the landing scene, I also use a very wideangle lense on the camera so it shows a wide shot of the landing etc, that can be scrolled left and right.
